On 26 March 2026 I had dinner at Ta’ Nenu in Malta, a restaurant known for traditional Maltese food. From the moment I walked in, the place felt warm and historic. The interior looks very authentic, almost medieval, with stone walls, wooden tables, and soft lighting. It feels like stepping into old Malta. The atmosphere is calm and welcoming, and it is a great place to try local dishes.
For starters I ordered two dishes. The first was Aljotta, a traditional Maltese fish soup. It was light, fresh, and full of flavor, with a pleasant taste of herbs, garlic, and lemon. The second starter was a grilled aubergine salad. The aubergine was soft and smoky, and it paired very well with the fresh ingredients in the salad.
For the main course I decided to try the famous Maltese bread called Ftira. I tried two different types: Ftira Tal-Baldas and Ftira Karmni s-Sultana. The bread was warm, slightly crisp outside, and soft inside. The toppings were generous and full of flavor. Each Ftira had its own character, and both tasted very traditional. It was simple food, but prepared with care and strong local identity.
For dessert I had a trio of Maltese desserts, which was a nice way to taste several sweets in one plate. The desserts were rich but balanced, and they showed the traditional sweet flavors of Malta. I also ordered a lemon and honey tea, which was warm, calming, and perfect after the meal.
Service during the evening was good and friendly. The staff were attentive without being intrusive, and the food arrived at a comfortable pace. Overall, Ta’ Nenu offers an authentic Maltese dining experience. If you want to try traditional food in a historic atmosphere, this restaurant is definitely worth visiting when you are in Malta.
